National archives and written heritage

 Workshops for students run by the Archives Nationales education service

  • Knowledge about archival science - Paris and Pierrefitte-sur-Seine sites

The visit is designed as a way to make first contact with the Archives Nationales, and includes the reading rooms and stacks. It enables students to apprehend all the missions comprising the archival chain, namely collecting, conserving, classifying, and providing access to records.

  • Methods of historians in the past and present day - Paris and Pierrefitte-sur-Seine sites

A visit in the historic setting of the "Grands dépôts" to discover what people have said about the Archives Nationales since its creation during the French Revolution up to the present day. The visit goes over the various historiographical debates that have marked the 19th and 20th centuries.

These days during term time are intended for final year undergraduates and Masters students in History and History of Art. They present the possibilities afforded by the Archives Nationales and help students narrow down their research topics.
