Cartographic records - Photographs

Cartographic records

Paris site
These records are available for consultation in a specific room (go to reception at 60 rue des Francs-Bourgeois, 75003 Paris), only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 2pm and 5pm, by appointment made at least 48-hours in advance by phoning +33 (0)1 40 27 60 36. You need to have a valid reader's ticket  and be at your reader's seat in the CARAN reading room.
Please note: Consulting certain cartographic records requires prior authorisation. Certain cartographic records have been digitised and are available online in the online catalogue or for local access from a computer in the CARAN. The N, NN, MAP/6 JJ, and CP/F/31 series are held at the Paris site.

Pierrefitte-sur-Seine site
Cartographic documents and large-format documents are consulted in the reading room like other documents. Cartographic records and large-format documents held in specific stacks need to be reserved using the procedure for "extracted" records, meaning there is a lapse of time before they are available for access.

Photographs

There are three different sorts of access for photographs:
- Certain items containing photographs may be consulted in the reading room like other documents
- Certain items containing many photographs or more fragile photographs are consulted at specific workplaces in the reading rooms, using specific material (gloves).
- Photographs held in special low-temperature stacks are consulted at specific workplaces in the reading rooms, by prior reservation, using specific material (gloves). The low-temperature conditions in which these photographs are held means there is a 48-hour interval between when they reserved and their being available for consultation. These documents need to be reserved following the "extracted" records procedure.
