Public Services +

The National Archives have placed their relationship with users and public reception at the heart of their 2021-2025 strategy. Since 2022, they have anchored this approach within the framework of the Services publics + programme.

The aim of the Services publics + programme is to:

  • better understand the expectations and feedback of National Archives users;
  • better support users in their physical reception, online, by phone, or by mail.

A Single Contact Number for Reading Rooms

Thanks to listening to users, in 2023 the National Archives set up a single telephone server for their two reading rooms, in Paris and Pierrefitte-sur-Seine.

This phone server also provides, 24/7, practical information on access to archival consultation, registration for reading rooms, and document reproduction — very useful, especially for users from around the world consulting National Archives documents.

Annual Satisfaction Survey

As part of their commitments related to the Services publics + programme, the National Archives publish satisfaction indicators, in full transparency. These are carried out each year through the annual satisfaction survey “The Reading Room and You”, conducted with readers in Paris and Pierrefitte-sur-Seine.

A User Listening Committee

Attentive to the needs of all their audiences, the National Archives launched a call for volunteers in spring 2023 to all their users — researchers, genealogists, visitors, students, teachers, pupils, and web users — to create a User Listening Committee.

Composed of 12 members, this committee met for the first time in July 2023. It gathers concrete experiences, opinions, and expectations of users who come to the National Archives. It enriches governance for the benefit of all audiences.

The National Archives and the Services publics + Commitments
